Algarve Proving Popular For 2014 Winter Sun Holidays

"algarve hotel news january"The Algarve is known for having some of the most favourable winter weather in all of Europe with general mild temperatures and low levels of rainfall in comparison to the rest of western Europe.  This has made the region a popular choice for decades with holiday makers who are looking to escape the poor weather in their own counties and enjoy some warmer temperatures in the Algarve.

The weather in the Algarve over the weekend may not have been very appealing, however the region has shown an increase in the number of tourists staying in hotels across the Algarve for the month of January.

Traditionally the Algarve is known for having very high levels of tourists in the summer months of June, July and August but the winter months of December, January and February have always been very poor for visitor numbers.  Now many hotels in the Algarve have lowered their prices to be very attractive for the winter months and this combined with reasonable value low cost flights arriving at Faro airport each day, makes the Algarve not only a warm option for holiday makers, but also a cheap one too!

New figures from AHETA, the Association of Hotels and Tourism in the Algarve, have shown that the average number of overnight stays in the Algarve was up by 1.8 percent in January in comparison to the same period in 2013.

The Portuguese national tourism market and the British market saw the highest levels of growth, rising by 0.7 and 0.5 percentage points each during January while the number of Dutch tourists staying in the Algarve fell by 0.2 percentage points.

Areas that saw the highest levels of growth in the number of overnight stays included areas of Albufeira and Carvoeiro and Armação de Pêra while the area that the overall greatest occupancy level was Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António where levels were up to 59.9 percent.

Lagos and Sagres saw the lowest occupancy levels in January this year with only 13 percent of hotel rooms available being occupied.

With warm temperatures and generally good weather the Algarve is a fantastic place to catch some much needed winter sun and to escape from bad weather back home.

At this time of the yea not only are the beaches almost empty, but the golf courses are also at their best making this an ideal time to visit the region and to take advantage of all it has to offer before the rush of the summer season begins.
