Faro is a capital Algarve and is located in the southern province of Portugal .Faro is popular among the tourist for its beaches. Some of things that a tourist like to know are related to the beaches, accommodation, restaurants, bars, shops, things to do and in fact all the information of the city.

Foundation for the Faro city was laid during the roman period. In the 9 th century the city was fortified and the name of the city changed from Ossonoba(Faro) to Santa Maria and then Harune. At last, in the middle of 13 th century Faro became a part of Portuguese. In the year 1577 Faro became the location of Episcopal Se at the time when the Bishops of Algarve relocated from Silves to Faro. Faro is more than just a landing point.Faro is a very beautiful place with abundance of history, big shops, restaurants and cafes in great quantities, artistic theatres and galleries, great beaches and the nature reserve known as Ria Formosa on the door steps.

When in Faro you can explore the oldest part of the city situated on the eastern side of mariana. The oldest part of Faro is known as Cidade Velha'. Here you can see the Arco-da-Vila, Manuel Bivar Gardens and follow the narrow zigzagged streets. The most interesting place here is the cathedral which is situated in the middle of the square. The church is not very grand from outside, but once when you go inside the cathedral you will see a great transformation. The interior of the church is beautified with the decorated tiles, complicated golden carving and various art works.

You can also climb up the tower and get the marvelous views of Faro as well as the other building in the square. The palace in Faro named Episcopal Palace is not open to the public because this palace is still used as the official residence of the Bishops. Building next to the square is Episcopal Seminary. This was build on the request of the then Bishop - Francisco Gomes de Avelar. The statue of Bishop Francisco Gomes de Avelar stands at one side of the Largo de Sé.

When you come out of 'Cidade Velha' you can take a ferry from the dock of Porta Nova to Ilha beaches. You will love the boat ride through Ria Formosa . Ria Formosa is a beautiful nature reserve where you can spot the migratory birds and pigeons. During the boat ride you can also see the beauty of the Faro city. The streets leading you away from Manuel Bivar gardens take you to the shopping area, cafés and restaurants where the streets are zigzagged. If you move away from the harbor you can see the modern office and apartment. Faro is a beautiful place and is worth a visit.
