Places to Visit In The Algarve – Autódromo Do Algarve

"autodromo do algarve"The Algarve is a place that many people come to for a relaxing holiday in the sun but if you want to boost the adrenalin levels while you are in the region then why not pay a visit to the Autódromo do Algarve, also known as the Algarve Motor park.

The Autódromo do Algarve is located near to Portimão in the centre of the region and is easy to get to by travelling along the A22 motorway and then taking the clearly signed exit for the Autódromo do Algarve.  From here there is a very good new road that leads you straight into the motor park where there is plenty of parking.  Alternatively if you travel along the EN125 you can turn for the Autódromo do Algarve near to the Penina resort and then follow the road along but this route is a little more complicated and the road is very narrow in some paces and not recommended unless you know the area well and are confident with driving in the Algarve.

It is hard to miss the Autódromo do Algarve because it is absolutely enormous!  You can see the grandstand from a long way off although the majority of the park has been built to be hidden from the surrounding area by being located in a dip between the hills of Monchique and the sandy beaches of Praia da Rocha.

Throughout the year there are several large events that take place at the Autódromo do Algarve with the highlight being the FIM World Superbike Championships which have taken place previously in October and in May.  This is probably the most popular event on the calendar at the Autódromo do Algarve and attracts thousands of fans from across Europe, however because this is a new stage on the tour there are still lots of spaces and seating available even on the day so you don’t need to be worried about huge crowds associate with other similar events across Europe.

There are many smaller events that also take place at the Autódromo do Algarve including car races, classic cars and motorbikes of all classes while special private testing sessions for Formula 1 bring the big names to the Algarve frequently.

If you fancy trying out the track for yourself there are open sessions for motorbikes and cars held over weekends at the park and there is also the karting track for those who prefer a smaller circuit.

If you are looking for something different to do in the Algarve then a trip to the Autódromo do Algarve is one for all the family and the competitive ticket prices make this an ideal place to be introduce to the world of motorsport.
