Places To Visit In The Algarve – Fatacil, Lagoa

"fatacil algarve entry"During the summer months the Algarve is packed full of different events with one of the most popular and largest being the Fatacil fair held in mid August at the Fatacil showground in Lagoa.

The Fatacil showground is easy to find if you travel along the EN125 to Lagoa.  If traveling from the east you turn off the EN125 and head left after the IZI building centre on the right hand side – you can see the lights from here.  You exit the EN125 at the same junction if coming from the west and then try to find a parking space which can be tricky if you arrive after 8pm.

There is an official car park for visitors behind the showground in the area where the flea markets are held each month but this car park fills up quickly and then you will be left to try and find a space on one of the roads near by or along the EN125 itself which is nor recommended.

If you arrive early and before the crowds then you will find ample parking and then can head into the showground where tickets are prices at €5 per person with discounts for family entry and children available.

The Fatacil fair is essentially an agricultural fair that has expanded over the years to include everything from handicrafts to cars and everything in between.

Many people head to the fair to pick up hand crafted wooden goods, good quality leather items at low prices and to browse the arts and crafts stalls.

Entertainment comes in the form of daily horse shows which take place in a small arena next to where prize winning cattle and sheep can be found while the main stage is in an other area and this is where the main acts perform each evening with very large crowds coming to watch.

There is a god sized food court area and this is a great place to try some Portuguese delicacies including roasted octopus, bifanas and some of the smelliest, strongest and most delicious cheese in the world!!

The Fatacil fair is one for all the family and all ages attend with some loving the live music, children playing in areas filled with inflatables and others happy to look around the shops while trying local cocktails.

Make sure you look out for the exact dates by visiting your local tourist information office where full details of events taking place every month in the Algarve can be found with details including prices, times and directions.
