Places to visit in the Algarve – Vilamoura

"vilamoura guide"Despite being a relatively small place the Algarve has a hugely diverse range of destinations within this coastal region and one of the most popular has to be Vilamoura.

Vilamoura is located in the central region of the Algarve between Almancil and Albufeira and borders on to the area of the Algarve known as the “Golden Triangle”, named as such for offering very high end, luxury holidays and properties.

It is easy to get to Vilamoura by travelling along the A22 motorway and then exiting where it is sign posted for Vilamoura or by just going along the EN125 and turning off for the resort town and then driving along the beautifully manicured roads to the centre of the resort.

One of the main attractions for people coming to Vilamoura is the golf and there are not many places that have so many golf courses located within such a small area.  The main courses in the area are run by Oceanico and there are plenty of offers available for people wanting to play more than one of the courses while in the area.

All the golf has led to a busy nightlife in and around the marina area but this is not just for golfers and while the 19th hole type venues are always busy there are plenty of other places offering everything from karaoke evenings, to live music or cocktail hours.

The marina area of Vilamoura is the centre of the resort and is as popular in the day as in the evening.  From here you can watch the boats coming in and out, head off on a boat trip of your own or do some people watching and celebrity spotting as Vilamoura is a firm favourite with many Portuguese and international stars including Luis Figo (who has a bar on the marina and is often about) and Cristiano Ronaldo who holidays most years in the area.

There is something for everyone in Vilamoura and the miniature golf park is popular with families who then often head off the McDonalds or other fast food chains while many people love to sit out in the evening and enjoy a meal on the marina.

With great beaches on your doorstep you can relax all day in the sun or alternatively take part in one of the legendary summer parties that are held on the beaches at pop up night clubs.

Vilamoura has lots of great accommodation options with plenty of five star choices while there are also more budget friendly self-catering options available on the outskirts of the resort.

Go for the day or spend an entire week or two in Vilamoura and you will find something to do 24 hours of the day in this luxury resort in the Algarve.
